What is the New Jersey Defensive Driving Course?

The New Jersey Defensive Driving Course is a six-hour online course approved by New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to remove 2 points from your driving record and qualify for an insurance discount.

How the New Jersey Defensive Driving Course Works

Complete the course in four easy steps:

Register.

Registration is quick and simple. Create a username and password, read some information about the course, and answer a few validation questions.

Take the Course.

The New Jersey Defensive Driving course consists of 8 short lessons made up of reading material, videos, animations and games on traffic laws and defensive driving techniques. There is a short multiple-choice quiz after each lesson that you must pass to proceed to the next lesson. You can take the lesson quizzes as many times as necessary to pass.

Pass the Final Exam.

At the end of the course, you must pass a short multiple-choice final exam. Most people pass the exam on their first attempt, but you can retake the exam as many times as necessary to pass. There is no charge to retake the final exam.

Receive Your Certificate of Completion.

We will email your Certificate of Completion to you after you pass the final exam. You can also print a copy of your certificate from your account. Two copies are included: one for your insurance company, and one for your personal records. If you are taking this course for Point Reduction, we will notify the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) of your course completion. Please allow two to three weeks for the NJ MVC to process your completion and for the two points to be removed from your driving record. Remember to check with the MVC within 2-3 weeks after you complete your course to make sure everything has been processed on their end.

What is the New Jersey Defensive Driving Course?

How many points will be removed from my driving record when I take the online New Jersey Defensive Driving course?

2 points will be removed from your driver record if you complete the New Jersey Defensive Driving course and pass the final exam. Please keep in mind that the points must already be on your record before you complete the course in order for the MVC to remove them.

How often can I take a New Jersey Defensive Driving course?

You are only allowed to take a Defensive Driving course once every 5 years in New Jersey.

How does the New Jersey Defensive Driving course work?

Our defensive driving course consists of eight lessons and a final exam. The lessons are made up of reading material, videos, animations, and interactive exercises. The final exam consists of multiple-choice questions.

Please allow two to three weeks for the NJ MVC to process your completion, and the two points to be removed from your NJ driving record.

How long does the NJ Defensive Driving course take?

The New Jersey Defensive Driving course is a six-hour course and will take you a minimum of six hours to complete.

Must I finish NJ traffic school in one sitting?

No, take your time, you don’t have to rush through the course. You can log in and out as much as you would like. We provide an unlimited number of logins. Just use your username and password to login, and you can continue where you last left off.

Can I take the final exam online?

Yes, you can take the final exam online no matter what county issued you a citation. Our online exam consists of multiple-choice questions and requires about 15-20 minutes to complete.

What happens if I do not pass the final exam?

Most people pass the exam the first time. However, you can take the exam as often as necessary without any additional charge.

How will the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission know that I have completed the course?

We notify the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission within 1 business day that you completed our defensive driving program. Please allow them two to three weeks to process your course completion and for the two points to be removed from your driving record. Remember to check with the MVC within 2-3 weeks after you complete your course to make sure everything has been processed on their end. Please keep in mind that the points must already be on your record before you complete the course in order for the MVC to remove them.

How soon will I get my Defensive Driving certificate?

Very interesting and I learned a lot of good tips from the course. I strongly believe that your defensive driving course will make your student a better driver's i think your course should be able to be video courses and the letter are too small to read if you need glasses .

Informative experience

An overall ok study guide but some attention to the following would be great: -There were poorly worded games and quiz questions that did not clearly convey the intended topic. e.g. Stress can be helpful because it can: a) Help us avoid danger b) Make us grumpy c) Make us irrational I can only assume there was a typo in this question. -The mini games content questions were mostly not associated with the material in the given lesson sections. Which felt like getting caught off guard. -There was not enough interactive content to keep participation engaging. Maybe some more interactive content in between lesson sections would be improve information retention. -Traffic laws content could be a bit broader. A plus on deeper delving of the social, economical, emotional etc consequences of substance use. Taken aback to anatomy class with the detailed effects the use of substances has on the bodily system.
