What is the Ohio Adult Remedial course?
The Ohio Adult Remedial course is an 8-hour course that drivers take either voluntarily to get a 2-point credit on their driving record, or that they take to satisfy a court or BMV requirement.
The course is regulated by the Ohio Department of Public Safety (DPS). Safe2Drive's Ohio Adult Remedial course can be completed entirely online.
Is Safe2Drive's Ohio Adult Remedial course approved by the Ohio DPS?
Not yet. We have submitted our course for approval. We hope to be approved soon, so please check back.
What does Safe2Drive's Ohio Adult Remedial course consist of?
Safe2Drive's Ohio Adult Remedial course consists of 8 hours of online instruction on traffic laws and defensive driving techniques, which will refresh your driving knowledge and help keep you safe on the road.
How does the course work?
In order to successfully complete our Ohio Adult Remedial course, you will need to follow these simple steps:
- Register for our course.
- Complete the 8 hours of online coursework.
- Pass the final exam.
- Receive your Certificate of Completion. fter you pass the final exam, we will process your completion to the Ohio BMV and email you your Certificate of Completion the same business day that you completed the course (Monday-Friday, excluding holidays),
so long as you completed the course by 5 PM Eastern Time. If you completed after 5 PM ET, we will process your completion to the Ohio BMV and email you your certificate the following business day. If you are taking the course to satisfy a court order,
you must present a copy of your certificate to your court.
What are the eligibility requirements to take the course?
If you are taking the course voluntarily to receive a 2-point credit on your driving record, please note that you may only take the course once every three years and up to five times in your lifetime.
There is no limit to how many times you can complete the course to satisfy a court order or BMV requirement.
How long do I have to complete the course? What happens if I don't complete it in that timeframe?
The Ohio DPS requires that you complete the course within 30 days. If you do not complete the course within that timeframe, you must start the course over from the beginning. We do not charge you to restart the course.
Are there lesson quizzes?
Yes. After each lesson, there is a 10-question, multiple-choice quiz. You must answer at least 8 questions correctly to pass the quiz and proceed to the next lesson. You may retake the lesson quiz as many times as necessary to pass.
What happens if I do not pass the lesson quiz?
Most people pass the lesson quiz the first time. However, if you fail a lesson quiz, you may review the lesson material and retake the quiz as many times as necessary until you pass at no additional charge.
What are personal validation questions?
Personal validation questions are a means of verifying the identity of the person taking the course, as is required by the State of Ohio. You will fill out the answers to 3 personal validation questions during registration (example: Which of these seasons do you like most?).
Twice during the course and once at the beginning of the final exam, you will be asked to answer a personal validation question. You have two attempts to answer the question correctly in order to proceed with the course or final exam.
If you answer the question incorrectly both times, you will be locked out of the course until the next calendar day.
Is there a final exam?
Yes. The final exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions, and you must score at least 75% to pass. You are allowed 2 attempts to pass the exam, but you may only take the exam once per calendar day. Per Ohio's rules, if you fail your second final exam attempt,
you will be required to start the course over from the beginning. There is no charge to restart the course.
How long does the course take to complete?
The online program consists of 8 hours of coursework. There is no limit to how much coursework you can complete in one day. However, per Ohio's rules, you must take a 10-minute break after two continuous hours of instruction.
How do I get my course certificate?
The Certificate of Completion is awarded after you have completed your coursework and passed the final exam. We will email the certificate to you and process your completion to the BMV the same business day that you complete the course (Monday-Friday, excluding holidays), so long as you complete the course by 5 PM Eastern Time.
If you complete after 5 PM ET, your certificate will be emailed to you the following business day and we will process your completion to the BMV the following business day as well. The course completion should show on your driving record a few minutes after we report it.
If you are taking the course to satisfy a court order, you must submit your certificate to your court.
