California Driver Education Eligibilty Requirements

If you're between 15½ and 17½ years old and want to get a California learner permit (provisional instruction permit), you'll need to complete a DMV-licensed California driver education course.

However, anyone of any age who wants to learn more about California's rules of the road and/ or is looking to obtain a California driver license may take this course. Please note, however, that anyone who is age 18 or older will not receive a Certificate of Completion (DL 400c), but will instead be emailed a Receipt of Completion that you can keep for your records.

How It Works

1. Register and Pay for the Course

It's simple. After you create an account (which takes less than a minute) you can start the course. You can log in and out whenever you want and from any computer that has Internet access. When you log back in, you can return to the exact page where you left off. We provide several payment methods. We accept credit cards, debit cards, personal checks, or money orders.

2. Take the Online Instruction

The lessons consist of lecture material, animations, and other interactive exercises. At the end of each lesson, you will be asked questions about the content you just studied. This will allow you to easily master the content and help you pass with flying colors! We want to make this process as easy and anxiety-free as possible.

3. Pass the Final Exam

You can take the exam online to complete the online instruction. Our online exam consists of multiple-choice questions and requires about 15-20 minutes to complete. You may retake the final exam as many times as necessary until you pass. We will also supply you with practice tests to help prepare you for your permit test at the DMV.

4. Get Your Certificate of Completion (DL 400c) or Your Receipt of Completion

If you're under age 18 and you finish the final exam by 3PM PST Monday-Friday, we will process and mail your Certificate of Completion (DL 400c) to you via 1st Class USPS mail the same day. If you complete the final exam after 3PM PST Monday-Friday, your Certificate will be processed the next business day. For those who require faster shipping methods, we also offer FedEx Overnight and 2-day delivery for an additional fee.

If you're age 18 or older, we will email you a Receipt of Completion when you finish the course. You may keep this receipt for your records.
