What does Safe2Drive's Ohio Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course consist of?

Safe2Drive's Ohio Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course consists of 4 hours of online instruction, which will satisfy the 4 hours of classroom instruction portion of the abbreviated adult driver training requirement needed to qualify for your second attempt at the road skills exam.

How does the course work?

In order to successfully complete our Ohio Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course, you will need to follow a few important steps:

  1. Register for our course.
  2. Complete the 4 hours of online coursework.
  3. Pass the final exam.
  4. Receive your Certificate of Completion.

Please Note: You are required to complete behind-the-wheel instruction as part of the abbreviated adult driver training. You may complete 4 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor, or you may complete 24 hours of driving with a licensed driver 21 years of age or older. If you are completing the 4 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor, the behind-the-wheel driving school will issue you a completed abbreviated adult certificate when you complete the behind-the-wheel training that indicates you have completed both the 4 hours of coursework and the behind-the-wheel instruction portions of abbreviated adult driver training. You will bring that certificate with you when you go to take your driving skills exam at the BMV.

If you choose to complete the 24 hours of driving with a licensed driver 21 years of age or older, you must complete the Twenty-Four Hour Affidavit (BMV 5789) attesting you have completed the minimum twenty-four hours of driving experience. You will bring your Certificate of Completion for the classroom instruction as well as your completed affidavit with you when you go to take your driving skills exam at the BMV.

What are the eligibility requirements to take the course?

In order to be eligible to take an Ohio abbreviated adult course, you must be at least 18 years old and you must have failed your first attempt at the maneuverability or road portion of the driving test.

What is included in the curriculum?

The Ohio Abbreviated Adult Course curriculum consists of engaging lessons with:

  • Lecture material
  • Informative videos
  • Interactive animations and slideshows
  • Fun games

Are there lesson quizzes?

Yes. After each lesson, there is a 4-question multiple-choice quiz. You must answer three questions correctly to pass the quiz and proceed to the next lesson. You may retake the lesson quiz as many times as necessary to pass.

What happens if I do not pass the lesson quiz?

Most people pass the lesson quiz the first time. However, if you fail a lesson quiz, you may review the lesson material and retake the quiz as many times as necessary until you pass at no additional charge.

Is there a final exam?

Yes. The final exam consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, and you must score at least 75% to pass. You are allowed 3 attempts to pass the exam, but you may only take the exam once per 24-hour period. Per Ohio's rules, if you fail your third final exam attempt, you will be required to start the course over from the beginning.

How long does the course take to complete?

The online program consists of 4 hours of coursework. Please Note: Per Ohio's rules, you must take a 10-minute break after two continuous hours of instruction.

How long do I have to finish the course?

Per Ohio's rules, you must complete the course within 90 days of registering or you will be required to start over.

How do I get my course certificate?

The Certificate of Completion is awarded after you have completed the course and passed the final exam. We will email the certificate to you the same business day that you complete the course (Monday-Friday, excluding holidays), so long as you complete the course by 5 PM Eastern Time. If you complete after 5 PM ET, your certificate will be emailed to you the following business day.

This Certificate of Completion proves you have completed the classroom portion of abbreviated adult driver training. Present this to your behind-the-wheel driving school so that you can start your behind-the-wheel training. When you complete the 4 hours of driving time with the professional instructor, your behind-the-wheel school should give you a Certificate of Completion that states you have completed both the 4 hours of coursework and the 4 hours of behind-the-wheel training. You will bring that certificate with you when you go to take your driving skills exam at the BMV.
