Pennsylvania Mature Driver Improvement
Overview
If you are 55 years of age or older, you may obtain a discount (at least 5%) on your auto insurance premium by completing a Pennsylvania Mature Driver Improvement course. The amount of the discount varies by insurance company. Check with your insurance agent to find out if the discount is available to you. The discount is effective for 3 years.
There are two course options for Pennsylvania Mature Driver Improvement: the Basic course and the Refresher course.
Basic Course
If you have never taken a Mature Driver Improvement course for an insurance discount before, you should take the Basic course first. It is 7 hours in length, and is made up of 10 easy lessons that feature the latest technology, like our Brain Speed Exercises, to help improve your driving skills and get you up-to-date on Pennsylvania traffic laws. Once you have successfully completed your course and your insurance company has applied the discount, you will enjoy a lower insurance premium for three years.
Refresher Course
After you have taken the Basic course once, you can take the Refresher course every 3 years to maintain your insurance discount. The Refresher course is 4 hours long, but is just as comprehensive as the Basic course.
Final Exam and Certificate of Completion
At the conclusion of either course, you will be required to pass a final exam in order to receive your Certificate of Completion (which serves as proof that you completed a driver improvement course). The final exam consists of 10 multiple-choice questions, and you must earn a score of at least 80% to pass. Don't stress, though. Most students pass the exam on their first attempt. But even if you don't pass on your first try, you get unlimited retakes at no extra cost to you!
We will email your Certificate of Completion to you after you pass the final exam. You can also print a copy of your certificate from your account. Just submit your certificate to your insurance company for a discount. Be sure to keep a copy of your Certificate of Completion for your records, as you will need it if you wish to complete a Refresher course in the future.
